School Nurse Substitute

Responsibilities

• Assist sick or injured students and staff with routine and emergency first aid
• Call parents of ill students and assist students until they arrive
• Administer medication with appropriate parental permission and physician orders
• Inform administrators of student health issues in compliance with privacy regulations
• Maintain the school clinic and secure medications, including controlled substances
• Perform medical procedures as prescribed by physicians
• Document clinic services and enter health information into the student medical system

Requirements

• Valid LPN or RN license in Virginia
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Knowledge of health issues related to school-age children
• Ability to maintain medical confidentiality
• Basic keyboarding and medical record keeping skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience as a school nurse
