School Counselor

Responsibilities

• Guide 12th grade students through the postsecondary process, including college list development, application support, and interview preparation
• Provide academic counseling for students in grades 9-12 addressing academic planning and social-emotional development
• Assist families with financial aid processes including FAFSA, TAP, and CSS Profile
• Provide guidance for non-traditional pathways such as military service, vocational training, and apprenticeships
• Coordinate SAT/ACT preparation programs and school-day testing logistics
• Write official recommendation letters and support faculty in the recommendation process
• Monitor student progress toward postsecondary goals using counseling systems
• Oversee credit audits and monitor graduation eligibility
• Support transferring students by assessing academic transcripts and creating transition plans

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Prior experience in high school college counseling, college admissions, or a related advising role
• Deep knowledge of college admissions and financial aid processes
• Exceptional writing and communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Comfort using data systems to track progress
• Ability to build trusting relationships with diverse families and scholars

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree or counseling certification
• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field
• Familiarity with non-college postsecondary pathways
