Saw Filer

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and sharpen circular and band saws, including gang saw blades and chipper knives
• Set, align, shape, and swage saw blades to ensure precision cutting and minimize waste
• Perform regular maintenance on filing room equipment such as grinders, swages, and tensioners
• Monitor saw performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain cutting accuracy
• Maintain accurate records of saw usage, repairs, and replacements
• Collaborate with mill operators and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues and improve cutting performance
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
• Maintain a clean and organized filing room

Requirements

• Proven experience as a saw filer in a sawmill or similar industrial setting
• Strong understanding of saw geometry, tensioning, and sharpening techniques
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
• Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
• Strong communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
