About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage company safety programs at the project level to drive a safety-oriented culture.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct hazards.
- Monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and provide coaching to ensure compliance.
- Implement and support the Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) in the field.
- Manage incident investigations, analyze lessons learned, and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain project files and training records in compliance with MSHA and Kiewit policies.
- Coordinate and provide safety training regarding policies, procedures, and MSHA orientation.
- Interface with MSHA and state officials during site visits.
- Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to regulations and work plans.
Requirements
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field (5+ years of experience as a safety manager may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- 5+ years of experience managing mining or construction projects in a safety-related role.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations, hazard recognition, and injury management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various climates and environments.
- Willingness to relocate based on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification.
- CPR/First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
- OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications.
