About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform zone cleaning including litter pickup, sweeping, and trash collection
- Utilize mechanical sweepers, vacuums, and pressure washers to clean public areas
- Identify and report physical defects like lighting outages or broken sidewalks
- Safely remove and decontaminate biohazards and dispose of sharps or illegal paraphernalia
- Execute maintenance repairs on masonry, woodwork, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Provide hospitality and customer service to visitors, including transit and route information
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of BID events and programs
Requirements
- Physical stamina to work outdoors for up to eight hours daily in all weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods and lift heavy trash bags
- Experience working with homeless individuals and people in crisis situations
- Ability to work a rotating schedule including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Driver's License
- Certification or knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse prevention
- Familiarity with Downtown D.C. sites, attractions, and the transit system
