About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize robotic manufacturing processes for surface finishing applications including sanding, polishing, spray coating, and coating removal
- Design and execute structured experiments using DoE methodology to characterize material removal physics
- Build and refine process models to translate experimental findings into deployable automation
- Apply material science knowledge to understand substrate behavior at chemical and mechanical levels
- Collaborate with customers to translate requirements into process specifications
- Support the design and implementation of new end-of-arm tooling (EOAT)
- Analyze manufacturing data to identify patterns and drive continuous process improvement
- Work cross-functionally with robotics, systems, and application engineers
- Leverage AI and Python for process characterization and predictive modeling
- Travel to customer sites up to 50% of the time
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Material Science, or a related field
- 2+ years of industry experience in manufacturing process development or process engineering
- Demonstrated use of Design of Experiments (DoE) or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology
- Proficiency in material science principles applied to manufacturing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in a research capacity (academic or industry)
- Ability to meet US export control requirements (US Citizen, Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee)
- Willingness to travel to customer sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in a related engineering field
- 5+ years of experience in process engineering within manufacturing or robotics
- DFSS certification or equivalent structured experimental design training
- Experience with robotic systems and end-of-arm tooling
- Proficiency in Python or C++ for data analysis and statistical modeling
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA
- Experience with FANUC robot programming or comparable industrial robots
- Background in both R&D and commercial production environments
