About the role
Responsibilities
- Teach riding lessons to students and the public, delivering 18-22 lessons per week during the academic year
- Coach and oversee the Otterbein equestrian teams and maintain a competitive program
- Manage competition travel for riders and horses in alignment with departmental guidelines
- Assist in the maintenance of the school horse herd, including grooming, exercising, and daily chores
- Support stable operations such as feeding, turnout, watering, and general facility care
- Provide ongoing schooling for horses owned or leased by the University
- Assist with recruitment efforts, promotional programs, and campus tours
- Support faculty and management with on-call responsibilities and equine emergencies
Requirements
- Extensive competitive eventing experience at the preliminary level or above
- Strong horsemanship skills with experience training both horses and riders
- Valid driver's license and experience hauling horses
- Active USEF membership
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally push/pull up to 100 pounds
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to animals
- ICP certifications
- Recognized show experience in other equestrian disciplines
- Knowledge of IHSA, IDA, and/or IEA organizations
