About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity communication link budgets and model antenna radiation patterns
  • Perform trade studies to evaluate and qualify COTS and custom RF components
  • Lead benchtop and vehicle-level RF testing using standard laboratory equipment
  • Assist in establishing and testing ground station networks using S-band and L-band frequencies
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal antenna placement and structural integrity
  • Generate documentation required for regulatory licensing with FCC, ITU, and NTIA
  • Design RF test systems to qualify hardware across thermal, vibration, shock, and EMI/EMC environments

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
  • 3+ years of professional aerospace/defense experience in RF hardware deployment or link architecture
  • Proven experience developing and analyzing RF link budgets
  • Foundational experience with electromagnetic simulation tools like Ansys HFSS
  • Background in the design of fault-tolerant and failover-capable RF systems
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment including spectrum analyzers and network analyzers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience testing and integrating S-band and L-band telemetry systems
  • Familiarity with RF propagation challenges during hypersonic reentry (plasma blackout)
  • Software or scripting fluency in Python or MATLAB
  • Knowledge of aerospace environmental qualification processes (EMI/EMC, TVAC)
  • Familiarity with telemetry and range safety standards like IRIG-106
  • Prior experience working in startups or small independent teams
