Respiratory Therapist- Pulmonary Function Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, maximum voluntary ventilation, lung volumes, single breath diffusion (DLCO), and oximetry.
• Administer bronchodilator treatments using handheld nebulizers and measured dose inhalers.
• Set up, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on pulmonary function laboratory equipment.
• Evaluate test reliability and patient performance, ensuring the validity of results through detailed data analysis.
• Produce accurate and timely study reports for physician interpretation and maintain detailed records of all activities.
• Communicate with interdisciplinary team members to assist with study interpretation and facilitate efficient laboratory operations.
• Instruct staff on pulmonary function testing procedures and explain tests to patients to ensure cooperation.
• Manage clerical duties including scheduling tests, gathering clinical information, and proper billing of procedures.

Requirements

• High school graduate with one of the following:
• 2+ years of clinical experience in pulmonary technology.
• 62 college semester hours (including biology, chemistry, and mathematics) plus 1 year of clinical experience in pulmonary technology.
• Completion of a CoARC or CAAHEP approved Respiratory Therapy program plus 6 months of clinical experience in pulmonary technology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current NBRC certification as a Certified (CPFT) or Registered (RPFT) Pulmonary Function Technologist.
• 3+ years of experience in pulmonary function and diagnostic testing, including equipment operation and report preparation.
