About the role
Responsibilities
- Assess care needs of patients for whom respiratory care services are requested
- Initiate, maintain, and wean patients from continuous mechanical ventilatory support devices
- Commit and maintain patients to BiPAP/CPAP therapy
- Evaluate therapy needs in general and intensive care patients and participate in physician rounds
- Instruct and precept respiratory care technicians, students, and medical/nursing staff
- Perform complex procedures including hemodynamic monitoring, arterial punctures, and bronchoscopy
- Accurately chart patient care in the electronic health record
- Participate in hospital cardiac arrest and Rapid Response Teams
Requirements
- Associate's degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by NBRC
- Current Michigan licensure as a Respiratory Therapist
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficiency in information technology and Microsoft Office
- Excellent customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in respiratory care or related field
- One or more years of experience in a critical care setting at an academic medical center
- Experience with research methodology and statistical relationships
