Respiratory Therapist

Responsibilities

• Assess care needs of patients for whom respiratory care services are requested
• Initiate, maintain, and wean patients from continuous mechanical ventilatory support devices
• Commit and maintain patients to BiPAP/CPAP therapy
• Evaluate therapy needs in general and intensive care patients and participate in physician rounds
• Instruct and precept respiratory care technicians, students, and medical/nursing staff
• Perform complex procedures including hemodynamic monitoring, arterial punctures, and bronchoscopy
• Accurately chart patient care in the electronic health record
• Participate in hospital cardiac arrest and Rapid Response Teams

Requirements

• Associate's degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by NBRC
• Current Michigan licensure as a Respiratory Therapist
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Proficiency in information technology and Microsoft Office
• Excellent customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in respiratory care or related field
• One or more years of experience in a critical care setting at an academic medical center
• Experience with research methodology and statistical relationships
