For over 50 years, Covenant House New York (CHNY) has been at the forefront of transforming lives by providing comprehensive shelter, housing, and wrap-around support services for vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth. CHNY impacts the lives of over 1,500 young people aged 16-24 every year.

Responsibilities

  • Directly engage, supervise, and support youth residing at the Older Females shelter site
  • Ensure the site and resident rooms are clean, safe, and in good condition
  • Assist youth in achieving shelter goals and addressing immediate trauma
  • Orient new residents to site expectations, mission, and child protection protocols
  • Assist residents with daily preparation, including waking, feeding, and transit to work or school
  • Provide administrative support to Case Managers, including paperwork and file maintenance
  • Maintain accurate records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) computer system
  • Escort residents to external agencies or services such as hospitals or school visits
  • Lead or participate in recreational activities and off-site trips
  • Complete incident reports and de-escalate crises following agency protocol
  • Ensure safety through security training, including searching belongings and rooms
  • Participate in regular case conferences, staff meetings, and individual supervision

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • 8-hour security license (Covenant House will provide training if not currently held)
  • Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
  • Strong focus on child protection and resident safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with at-risk or homeless young females
  • Valid Driver's license with comfort driving a 7-passenger van
