Residency Manager

About the Company

Astera Institute is a new kind of research organization that operates outside the constraints of markets or academia. We support extraordinary technologists and scientists producing open public goods across Biological and Artificial Intelligence, AI-enabled life sciences, and open science through a fully funded, 12–18 month Residency program.

Responsibilities

• Own the operational backbone of the Residency, including selection, onboarding, check-ins, and transitions
• Serve as the primary operational point of contact for every resident throughout their full tenure
• Anticipate and consolidate resident needs such as budgets, milestones, hiring, and space
• Identify recurring friction points and build lightweight, repeatable processes to meet them as the program scales
• Manage the rolling selection process, including scheduling, reviewer workflows, and candidate communications
• Keep senior stakeholders aligned with clear, high-signal updates
• Support event logistics, hub operations, and special projects across the operations stack

Requirements

• 5-10 years in operations, chief-of-staff, program management, or similar roles
• Demonstrated ability to run complex, multi-stakeholder operations independently
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Experience scaling young organizations
• Ability to thrive in ambiguous, early-stage environments
• High level of intellectual curiosity regarding science and technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience offering informal coaching to growing organizations
• Proficiency using AI tools to uplevel work efficiency
