About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct state-of-the-art research on AI safety topics including RLHF, adversarial training, and robustness
  • Implement new methods into core model training and launch safety improvements in OpenAI products
  • Set research directions and strategies to ensure AI systems are safe, aligned, and robust
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including legal, policy, and Trust & Safety to meet safety standards
  • Evaluate models and systems to identify risks and propose effective mitigation strategies

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in the field of AI safety
  • Expertise in RLHF, adversarial training, robustness, fairness, or biases
  • In-depth understanding of deep learning research and strong engineering skills
  • Experience with safety work related to AI model deployment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional research environments
