We operate like a startup with a small team, minimal bureaucracy, and high risk tolerance, aiming to develop a rigorous theory of latent internal structure in neural networks to ensure AI safety and understanding.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply rigorous mathematical theories to understand latent internal structures in neural networks
• Move between theoretical development and experimental verification using real models and data
• Pursue independent research ideas within the broader program, including belief discovery, generalization, and biological intelligence

Requirements

• Depth in a quantitative field such as physics, mathematics, neuroscience, or machine learning
• Ability to perform rigorous mathematics and hands-on model/data experimentation
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex ideas to collaborators

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in Physics, CS, neuroscience, or math
• Extensive machine learning experience
• Experience in mechanistic interpretability
