Research Scientist Engineer - FEC Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Create and analyze forward error correction (FEC) designs for next-generation high-speed optical communication systems
• Work closely with the Modem Signal Processing Team to implement digital algorithms in Ciena products
• Analyze complex problems in coding theory, statistics, signal processing, and communications theory
• Create innovative solutions suitable for CMOS implementation
• Model complex systems using MATLAB
• Collaborate with DSP, hardware, firmware, electro-optic, and systems teams to provide design feedback and best practices

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
• Strong background in Coding theory, Statistics, Mathematics, or Digital Communications
• Proficiency in modeling using MATLAB

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with various FEC types such as LDPC, algebraic (RS, BCH, RM), and Polar codes
• Experience with C or C++ programming
