About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight and leadership for the start-up and initiation of clinical trials within the Neurology Division
- Manage the overall study start-up process, including the prioritization and assignment of work for all studies
- Oversee and evaluate research staff, including clinical research associates, coordinators, and students
- Manage the preparation, submission, and maintenance of REB and regulatory documentation for diverse protocols
- Review industry-sponsored studies for operational feasibility and provide critical feedback to Principal Investigators
- Ensure all research activities comply with ethical requirements, Canadian regulatory principles, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Facilitate operational linkages between co-investigators, physicians, and external collaborating research teams
- Manage contracts, budget reviews, negotiations, and communications with funding agencies and industry liaisons
- Oversee quality assurance, monitoring, auditing, and the archiving of closed clinical research projects
Requirements
- Post-graduate degree or equivalent professional designation with 4-6 years of related experience (or an undergraduate degree with 6+ years of related experience)
- Extensive knowledge of the UBC RISe application process or similar online regulatory systems
- Deep expertise in medical terminology
- Strong understanding of Canadian regulatory principles, legislation, and ethical research principles
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience specifically within Pediatric Neurology and industry-sponsored trials
- High degree of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure to meet strict deadlines
