Research Fellow - Robotics Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms for structural anomaly detection from sensor data including camera, forward looking sonar, and multi-beam sonar
• Conduct simulation and field trials including data collection, processing, and analysis
• Work with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate algorithms into operational AUV platforms
• Prepare technical documentation, research publications, and project deliverables

Requirements

• PhD (or near completion) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• Strong foundation in autonomous systems, robotic perception, and 3D computer vision
• Proficiency in Python, C++, and ROS (Robot Operating System)
• Experience in machine learning and signal processing for anomaly detection
• Familiarity with 3D reconstruction and point cloud processing
• Understanding of sensor fusion and navigation algorithms

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with AUVs, ROVs, or other field robotics systems
• Experience in structural defect detection based on visual and/or 3D point cloud
• Exposure to deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
• Knowledge of autonomous mission planning
• Familiarity with Linux, Docker, and Git
• Previous work in infrastructure inspection, marine sensing, or predictive maintenance
