About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research on optical metasurfaces and meta-optical systems.
  • Design, build, and utilize custom optical systems to characterize metasurfaces and generate high-impact experimental results.
  • Prepare and publish scholarly outputs, present at seminars and conferences, and contribute to competitive funding proposals.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate research students and support junior research staff.
  • Engage actively with TMOS nodes, School committees, and outreach activities to foster collaboration and public engagement.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, electrical and electronic engineering, physical chemistry, or materials science.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and characterising optical metasurfaces using custom optical measurement systems.
  • Strong research track record, including publications, reports, and manuscripts aligned with meta-optics or related fields.
  • Ability to manage research projects effectively and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Proven ability to engage productively with collaborators, industry, or professional bodies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional strengths in theoretical modelling or nanofabrication.
  • Experience with successful grant applications.
  • Experience in the supervision of research students.
