About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small research team focused on free-space optical communication optimized for maritime environments
  • Coordinate research activities with project partners in industry, government, and defence
  • Conduct technical research across optomechanics, communications engineering, software development, and atmospheric physics
  • Undertake independent research to develop advanced photonic systems

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in free-space optical engineering or optical communications systems and photonic technologies
  • Experience in software, programming, simulation, or algorithm development (e.g., Python or MATLAB)
  • Experience in high-quality supervision of junior staff and HDR students
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to meet research deadlines
