About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead a small research team focused on free-space optical communication optimized for maritime environments
- Coordinate research activities with project partners in industry, government, and defence
- Conduct technical research across optomechanics, communications engineering, software development, and atmospheric physics
- Undertake independent research to develop advanced photonic systems
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in free-space optical engineering or optical communications systems and photonic technologies
- Experience in software, programming, simulation, or algorithm development (e.g., Python or MATLAB)
- Experience in high-quality supervision of junior staff and HDR students
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to meet research deadlines
