Research Economist

Responsibilities

• Support research efforts in India regarding the impact of land record digitalization (SVAMITVA and NAKSHA) on tenure security, finance access, and agricultural subsidies.
• Implement rigorous evaluations of efforts to use land records to increase access to finance, improve local revenue generation, and enhance public support to rural areas.
• Utilize data interoperability within India's Agri-Stack to increase adaptation, diversification, and access to insurance.
• Maintain dialogue with the Country Management Unit (CMU) and relevant Ministries to monitor the implementation of innovative land programs.
• Collaborate with local think tanks and universities to build research capacity and link efforts to impact evaluations.

Requirements

• PhD in economics or a related discipline.
• Proven track record of economic research focused on India.
• Strong analytical skills and familiarity with impact evaluation literature.
• Demonstrated ability to work with survey, administrative, and geospatial data.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively with policymakers.
• A pipeline of journal publications or publishable work in progress.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with land records and access to finance in India.
• Knowledge of literature regarding land tenure, institutions, and markets.
