Research Associate

Responsibilities

• Conduct research in time domain astrophysics within Prof. Palmese’s lab
• Use Dark Energy Camera, Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument, and/or Rubin Observatory data to identify multi-messenger sources and new transients using AI methods
• Attend and present research results in lab group meetings and collaborator sessions
• Participate in and help organize activities within the McWilliams Center for Cosmology and Astrophysics
• Develop strategies to solve research problems and identify obstacles to progress
• Summarize statistical information for analysis and write technical reports
• Build and validate quantitative models as required

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree
• Minimum 1 year of research experience in observational time domain astrophysics related to gravitational wave data and/or optical astronomical transients
• Experience with applications of AI tools to astronomical data or completion of AI college courses
• Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and reasoning skills
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
