About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in time domain astrophysics within Prof. Palmese’s lab
- Use Dark Energy Camera, Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument, and/or Rubin Observatory data to identify multi-messenger sources and new transients using AI methods
- Attend and present research results in lab group meetings and collaborator sessions
- Participate in and help organize activities within the McWilliams Center for Cosmology and Astrophysics
- Develop strategies to solve research problems and identify obstacles to progress
- Summarize statistical information for analysis and write technical reports
- Build and validate quantitative models as required
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum 1 year of research experience in observational time domain astrophysics related to gravitational wave data and/or optical astronomical transients
- Experience with applications of AI tools to astronomical data or completion of AI college courses
- Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and reasoning skills
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
