About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate privacy technology for smart cities through conceptual design, development, and empirical evaluation.
  • Conduct human subject studies to evaluate new functionality and understand technology acceptance among end-users.
  • Collaborate with the PI, Prof. Norman Sadeh, to publish research in top-tier conferences and journals.
  • Supervise junior team members and interact with external partners and end-users in the City of Long Beach.
  • Support the deployment and refinement of IoT privacy infrastructure and GenAI functionality.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree required (Doctoral Degree preferred).
  • 1-3 years of research experience.
  • Strong background in privacy, security, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
  • Experience with human-centered design.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work under limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research experience specifically in usable privacy and security.
  • Experience collaborating on large-scale research and software projects.
