About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist with mouse colony handling, including breeding and maintaining transgenic mouse lines and monitoring animal health.
- Conduct mouse behavioral experiments, small animal handling, and perfusions.
- Maintain laboratory safety protocols, cleanliness, and inventory, including ordering supplies and managing chemical waste.
- Prepare laboratory reagents and perform sample preparation for qPCR, RNAseq, spatial sequencing, and biochemical assays.
- Perform tissue preparation and imaging, including cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a research environment or experience handling rodents in a laboratory setting.
- Wet-laboratory experience.
- Strong organization, communication, and computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks under the supervision of senior personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working independently with animals (breeding, behavior, or surgery).
- Background in neuroscience or behavioral psychology.
- Experience in chemistry, biology, physics, or related sciences.
- Basic programming skills in Python or MATLAB.

The Ultrasound Engineering and Imaging Laboratory (UEIL) at Columbia University's Department of Biomedical Engineering is a translational science lab led by Dr. Konofagou. We focus on using ultrasound as a real-time imaging and theranostic tool for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.
