About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Managing Director to support the Infrared (IR) Lab, overseeing technical development projects and staff.
  • Supervise a diverse group of staff in an academic laboratory and research setting, including personnel management and conflict resolution.
  • Manage the planning and coordination of research lab activities, including costs, methods, and employee responsibilities.
  • Consult with academic Principal Investigators (PIs) on innovation progress to ensure the success of engineering activities.
  • Oversee lab operations to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory procedures and reporting.
  • Manage laboratory safety procedures, including chemical and biological disposal guidelines.
  • Report on project statuses and finances using strong analytical techniques.
  • Represent the research unit and academic PIs in meetings, conferences, and other professional matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Proven staff supervision experience in an academic laboratory or research setting.
  • Experience in Project Management for technical development projects within a laboratory environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering domains, including optical, mechanical, electronic, and software engineering.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in human resources and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-level priorities in a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of lab safety procedures and chemical/biological disposal requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related area.
  • PhD in a related area.
  • Graduate-level coursework in a relevant scientific or engineering field.
