About the role
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between industry partners, faculty researchers, and graduate students to develop collaborative research opportunities.
- Develop and implement plans to support research areas relevant to industry needs in alignment with the University’s academic mission.
- Write grant and investment proposals to secure funding for proof of concept and product development.
- Implement strategies to maximize the economic and social impact of commercialization partnerships.
- Negotiate financial and business terms for commercialization agreements.
- Identify and execute strategies for research and development (R&D) collaborations.
- Develop project schedules, including milestones, timelines, deliverables, and reporting.
- Forecast, plan, and monitor multiple complex project and program budgets.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, or theoretical chemistry.
- 6-7 years of recent experience in industrial or academic research settings.
- Proven experience in R&D coordination and formulating industry-based research projects.
- Demonstrated success in business development and stakeholder management with industry, academic, and government partners.
- Experience managing complex project and program budgets.
- Strong skills in writing grant proposals, investment proposals, and complex business contracts.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to manage diverse stakeholder expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industry-academic governmental funding programs such as Mitacs, NSERC, and OCI.
- Experience advising graduate students through internship cycles.
