About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the research administration team, serving as a primary resource for complex issues.
- Manage a complex portfolio of pre-award activities, including preparing and submitting sponsored research proposals and developing budgets.
- Oversee post-award financial management for sponsored projects, gift funds, and startup accounts.
- Monitor budgets and expenditures, advising faculty on financial planning and compliance.
- Coordinate grant-funded personnel appointments and effort reporting.
- Develop and improve administrative processes and standardize workflows.
- Act as a liaison between faculty, the College of Engineering, and central University offices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- For Lead level: 7+ years of progressive grant, finance, and contract research administration experience in an academic setting.
- For Senior level: 5+ years of progressive grant, finance, and contract research administration experience in an academic setting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and financial management systems.
- Demonstrated experience managing portfolios involving major federal agencies such as NSF, DoD, or DoE.
- Strong critical thinking, organizational skills, and ability to meet tight regulatory deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of comprehensive, progressive research administration experience.
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) credential.
- Experience designing and delivering peer training or technical mentorship.
- Knowledge of project management best practices.
