About the role
Responsibilities
- Advise and assist faculty, fellows, and students with preparing and submitting internal and external grant applications to federal, non-federal, and industry sponsors
- Coordinate the submission process, including budget development and guidance on school and sponsor guidelines
- Monitor expenditures on sponsored and non-sponsored projects to ensure adherence to approved budget allocations
- Review and reconcile monthly financial activity and resolve issues independently
- Proactively monitor sponsored projects for changes such as re-budgeting, personnel changes, and project scope updates
- Maintain faculty effort and budget spreadsheets
- Assist with IRB questions, account setup, and general administrative inquiries
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, or a scientific discipline)
- At least three years of experience in research administration, grant management, finance, or a related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sponsor systems such as Research.gov and Grants.gov
- Experience with University of Michigan research administration systems and processes
- Experience supporting both pre-award and post-award research administration
