About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee the care, health, and welfare of reptiles, amphibians, and fish, ensuring species-specific dietary and environmental needs are met.
- Supervise the preparation of diets and monitor feeding behaviors.
- Maintain enclosures and tanks, managing temperature, humidity, lighting, and water quality.
- Monitor and document animal behavior and health for early detection of illness or stress.
- Assist with veterinary care, including administering medications and supporting medical procedures.
- Develop and implement enrichment programs to stimulate natural behaviors.
- Manage breeding programs, including incubation and hatchling care.
- Train, mentor, and supervise team members and volunteers.
- Maintain comprehensive records of feeding, health, enrichment, and breeding.
- Respond to emergencies such as escapes or health crises following established protocols.
Requirements
- High school graduate; a degree or diploma in Zoology, Biology, Herpetology, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in handling and caring for reptiles, amphibians, and fish in a zoo or wildlife park.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in team supervision and leading animal care programs.
- In-depth knowledge of species-specific dietary, behavioral, and environmental requirements.
- Strong understanding of water quality management, including filtration and pH balance.
- Familiarity with safety protocols for handling venomous and potentially dangerous species.
- Physical stamina for demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and cleaning enclosures.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
