Reporter Journalism Internship

Responsibilities

• Produce original, high-quality, and trustworthy journalism for the local community
• Provide boots-on-the-ground coverage by attending events, breaking news, and conducting in-person interviews
• Participate in an established training program to develop reporting and research abilities
• Use news judgment to translate complex information into digestible stories
• Monitor social media and community networks to identify trending local stories
• Create engaging multi-media content including photo, video, and audio for digital platforms

Requirements

• Current or graduating post-secondary student eligible to work in Ontario
• Ability to work full-time hours, including weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays
• Access to reliable personal transportation for community assignments
• Knowledge of Canadian Press (CP) Style
• Strong digital storytelling skills and proficiency with social media tools
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment (remote and in-community)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data analysis and using audience insights to inform reporting
• Ability to build professional relationships easily with community members
• Experience producing multi-media content for web and social media
