Reporter Journalism Internship

Responsibilities

• Produce original, high-quality, and trustworthy journalism for the Niagara community.
• Provide boots-on-the-ground coverage by attending local events, breaking news, and conducting in-person interviews.
• Participate in an established training program to develop reporting and research abilities.
• Monitor social media and community networks to identify trending local stories and breaking news.
• Use news judgment to translate complex information into digestible digital stories.
• Create engaging multi-media content, including photo, video, and audio posts for web and social media.

Requirements

• Current or graduating post-secondary student eligible to work in Ontario.
• Ability to work full-time hours, including weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays.
• Access to reliable personal transportation for community assignments.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian Press (CP) Style.
• Proficiency in digital storytelling and social media tools.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, combining remote work with community-based reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data analysis and using audience insights to inform storytelling.
• Ability to build professional relationships easily with community members and colleagues.
• Demonstrated passion for local news and community engagement.
