About the role
Responsibilities
- Execute environmental permitting strategies and develop regulatory approaches for diverse projects.
- Direct environmental field surveys, including wetland, forest stand, and critical area resource assessments.
- Prepare permit applications (such as Section 404/401 and Joint Permit Applications) and coordinate responses with agencies.
- Manage coordination and technical reporting with agencies including MDE, MD DNR, USACE, USFWS, and EPA.
- Lead Forest Conservation Plan, Critical Area, and Tier II submissions in accordance with state and municipal requirements.
- Perform quality assurance/quality control reviews of environmental deliverables.
- Mentor junior staff in conducting field surveys and interpreting data.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Studies, Policy, Planning, Geology, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience specific to regulatory practice in the environmental field.
- Deep knowledge of Maryland state and US federal environmental laws and regulations.
- Proven experience in technical writing and negotiating with regulatory agencies.
- Ability to conduct environmental field surveys and interpret scientific/technical documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CADD and GIS is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Maryland Forest Conservation Act Qualified Professional certification.
- Certified Arborist designation.
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification.
