Registered Practical Nurse

Responsibilities

• Support nursing care and participate in an inter-professional care team within the Spinal Cord Rehab Program
• Provide education to patients and families regarding relevant deficits and health promotion interventions
• Contribute to the care planning process and follow designed plans of care
• Provide safe, competent care within the professional Scope of Practice
• Actively participate in the education and mentorship of RPN students and new staff
• Ensure compliance with patient safety responsibilities, hospital plans, policies, and procedures

Requirements

• Current CNO General Certificate and membership in good standing
• Completion of a recent health assessment or physical assessment course
• Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (C level)
• Current medication certificate
• Recent experience in rehabilitation nursing care for neurological patient populations
• Experience with trach care, suctioning, tube feeding, and bowel/bladder management
• Ability to assess and care for patients with multiple medical needs and severe cognitive or physical impairments
• Ability to manage patients presenting with severe behavioral dysfunction

Preferred Qualifications

• Diploma preparation as an RPN in a recognized education program
• Knowledge of medical asepsis
