About the role
Responsibilities
- Support nursing care and participate in an inter-professional care team within the Spinal Cord Rehab Program
- Provide education to patients and families regarding relevant deficits and health promotion interventions
- Contribute to the care planning process and follow designed plans of care
- Provide safe, competent care within the professional Scope of Practice
- Actively participate in the education and mentorship of RPN students and new staff
- Ensure compliance with patient safety responsibilities, hospital plans, policies, and procedures
Requirements
- Current CNO General Certificate and membership in good standing
- Completion of a recent health assessment or physical assessment course
- Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (C level)
- Current medication certificate
- Recent experience in rehabilitation nursing care for neurological patient populations
- Experience with trach care, suctioning, tube feeding, and bowel/bladder management
- Ability to assess and care for patients with multiple medical needs and severe cognitive or physical impairments
- Ability to manage patients presenting with severe behavioral dysfunction
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma preparation as an RPN in a recognized education program
- Knowledge of medical asepsis
