About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide education to patients and families regarding relevant deficits and related health promotion interventions
- Work effectively independently and collaboratively with an inter-professional team
- Contribute to the care planning process and follow designed plans of care
- Provide safe, competent care within Scope of Practice
- Participate in the education and mentorship of RPN students and new staff
- Comply with patient safety responsibilities, hospital plans, policies, and procedures
Requirements
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (General Certificate)
- Recent completion of a health assessment or physical assessment course
- Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (C level) Heart Saver Plus (Canada)
- Current medication certificate
- Recent experience in rehabilitation nursing care of neurological patient populations
- Experience with trach care, suctioning, tube feeding, and bowel/bladder management
- Ability to care for patients with severe behavioral dysfunction, cognitive impairment, or physical impairment
- Computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma preparation as an RPN in a recognized education program
- Knowledge of medical asepsis
