Registered Practical Nurse

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and evaluate nursing care for patients and families within the RPN scope of practice
• Use theoretical and research knowledge to implement care in an interdisciplinary context
• Participate in inter-professional team care planning forums, rounds, and family conferences
• Provide mentorship to RPN students and new staff on the unit
• Comply with patient safety responsibilities and hospital policies and procedures

Requirements

• Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Diploma in Nursing from a recognized education program
• 2-5 years experience in care and management of patients with moderate to advanced dementia
• 2-5 years experience managing behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia
• 3-5 years experience in care of medically complex geriatric patients
• Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (C level) Heart Saver Plus
• Strong health assessment and clinical decision-making skills
• Computer proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Geriatric Psychiatry, Geriatric Medicine, or Geriatric Rehabilitation
• Member of the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO)
• Completion of Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care (GPA) training
