About the role

Responsibilities

  • Screen hospital patients on-site (bedside or in the ER) to identify eligibility for state, county, or federal assistance programs
  • Review hospital census and utilize referral methods to identify self-pay patients
  • Initiate the application process for assistance programs bedside whenever possible
  • Assist patients with enrollment applications and introduce them to available services
  • Document all screening results in the onsite tracking tool and hospital computer systems
  • Conduct occasional field work, including patient home visits, to screen for program eligibility
  • Maintain positive working relationships with hospital staff and adhere to all confidentiality and compliance policies

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Up-to-date immunizations (required due to healthcare setting)
  • Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in medical coding, medical billing, or government eligibility
  • Previous customer service experience
