Reference Librarian

Responsibilities

• Staff the law library reference desk according to a weekly schedule, including evening and rotating weekend hours.
• Provide specialized research assistance and reference services to law students, faculty, the university community, and the Milwaukee legal community.
• Deliver research assistance in person, via telephone, and through electronic communication.
• Conduct occasional instructional sessions and provide research support to students and student-edited journals.
• Create and update research guides, bibliographies, and other law library web content and publications.
• Collaborate on the development and implementation of library goals, policies, and services.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• M.L.I.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution, or current enrollment in such a program with degree completion expected within one year of hire.
• Deep knowledge of legal research methodology and legal bibliography in multiple formats.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment.
• Strong service orientation and ability to work with a diverse patron population.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in library reference or specifically within a law library setting.
• Experience teaching legal research, technology, or information literacy.
