About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist the Recreation Therapy Manager in developing, implementing, and executing approved group and individual therapeutic programs
- Implement and monitor therapeutic recreation techniques to support resident care plans
- Provide input to develop and update resident therapeutic recreation care plans
- Maintain accurate records of daily attendance and resident participation
- Complete monthly statistics, calendars, and supply requisitions
- Clean and maintain designated therapy areas and equipment
- Transport residents using the program vehicle when required
- Assist in the orientation and supervision of new staff, volunteers, and practicum students
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Recreation Therapy or significant experience working in recreation therapy with senior populations
- Valid CPR and Standard First Aid certification
- Current Safecheck Food Safe certificate
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health conditions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to assess resident responses and recognize changes in health status
- Strong verbal and non-verbal communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage timelines
- Capacity to handle stressful situations and challenging behaviors in a professional manner
