R&D Tax Senior Manager

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice on SME and large company R&D tax schemes (including RDEC) and the UK Patent Box regime.
• Lead and manage senior client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to ensure high levels of satisfaction and retention.
• Act as the final escalation point for high-risk or complex claims, providing technical direction and sign-off.
• Line manage and mentor a team of senior consultants, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting their professional development.
• Oversee claim delivery, resourcing, and profitability across a diverse client portfolio.
• Support business development initiatives by identifying growth opportunities and contributing to client proposals.
• Ensure strict compliance with HMRC requirements and internal quality control and governance standards.

Requirements

• Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or Finance/Accounting.
• 4+ years of experience in a managerial role within R&D tax, corporate taxation, or a related field.
• Essential experience working with HMRC.
• Proven expertise in advising on both R&D tax reliefs and the UK Patent Box regime.
• Demonstrated experience in people leadership, ideally managing senior consultants.
• Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax issues clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional qualifications such as ATT or CTA.
• Project management certifications such as APM or PRINCE2.
