R&D Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Execute mechanical design efforts for the W93 system, including developing mechanical layouts for major components and subassemblies.
• Design for testing of Joint Test Assemblies (JTAs) to ensure builds meet program requirements and support flight testing.
• Collaborate with external partners such as Lockheed Martin and Los Alamos National Laboratory to define interfaces and ensure manufacturability.
• Partner with Metals/Non-Metals and electrical engineering teams to ensure seamless physical integration of components.
• Utilize CAD tools like Creo and SolidWorks to model concepts and communicate design intent.
• Support configuration management workflows using PDMLink to maintain design integrity.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to system-level risk assessments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent security clearance to start.
• Ability to work onsite due to the sensitive nature of the work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex.
• Proficiency in CAD tools (Creo or SolidWorks) and PDMLink configuration management.
• Experience in systems engineering of large, complex systems or nuclear weapon design and development.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
