R&D Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct environmental tests including mechanical vibration, shock, acceleration, and thermal testing
• Support the development and qualification of Nuclear Deterrence components, assemblies, and full systems
• Perform characterization measurements such as inertial/mass properties and experimental modal analysis
• Troubleshoot and document test anomalies
• Present technical results and requirements to customers and management
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of new testing technologies

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship)
• Proficiency in Python, Matlab, C++, or another programming language
• Experience with structural dynamics tests such as vibration, shock, or experimental modal analysis
• Experience with data acquisition and signal processing using sensors like accelerometers and load cells

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization within the NNSA complex
• Familiarity with test setups such as climatic chambers, drop towers, centrifuges, or mass property measurement equipment
