About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop new HTS magnet designs and associated subsystems, including R&D test samples and manufacturing processes
- Design, build, and commission test equipment to achieve R&D campaign objectives
- Perform structural, electrical, and thermal analyses to support sample design and predict test results
- Support the production, integration, and commissioning of SPARC NINT coils
- Collaborate with I&C engineers to develop instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Maintain technical documentation including design reviews, wiring lists, P&IDs, schematics, and CAD assemblies
- Develop custom tools to analyze generated data and present results through trade studies and technical reviews
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or similar) or applied physics
- 2+ years of experience as an R&D or test engineer designing and commissioning complex electromechanical systems
- Proficiency with CAD design software such as Siemens NX or equivalent
- Familiarity with electromagnetic fundamentals (voltage, current, resistance, Ohm’s law, etc.)
- Strong data reduction and analysis skills
- Experience selecting and utilizing instrumentation (thermocouples, sensors, oscilloscopes, etc.)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a facility with industrial hazards (high voltage, cryogenics, strong magnets)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modeling/analysis software such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or PLECS
- Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data processing
- Experience with high voltage/high current power equipment or cryogenic systems
- Experience designing fluid systems (P&IDs) or high vacuum equipment
- Experience developing manufacturing processes for production hand-off
