About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform electromagnetic analysis of superconducting magnets to guide SPARC subsystem design and future fusion technology
- Conduct non-linear, highly-anisotropic E&M simulations in complex geometries
- Work closely with experimental teams to validate simulations against measurement and instrumentation data
- Develop new numerical tools and custom in-house code to facilitate multi-objective design optimization
- Identify enabling technologies for the modeling and construction of high-temperature superconducting magnets
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to inform design decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or a relevant field with an EM background (physics, mechanical engineering, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience modeling electromagnetics using finite element methods (FEM)
- Strong theoretical understanding of computational electromagnetic analysis and non-linear physics
- Experience with commercial finite element tools, such as COMSOL
- Proficiency in modern programming languages including Python, MATLAB, C, or C++
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic R&D environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi-physics FEM modeling (heat transfer, mechanics, fluids, structures, etc.)
- Experience working specifically with superconducting non-linear physics
- Experience developing equivalent thermal and electrical circuit models
