About the role

Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance activities for proprietary and leased railcar fleets to ensure compliance with DOT and FRA regulations
  • Coordinate work with fixed-base contracted shops and mobile repair vendors across North America and Canada
  • Administer the railcar life-cycle maintenance program, including acceptance criteria and required documentation
  • Develop and manage railcar maintenance budgets, including auditing estimates and invoices for contractual compliance
  • Analyze maintenance issues and develop corrective action plans to improve fleet reliability and availability
  • Perform economic analyses to determine repair versus scrap decisions for aging or damaged railcars
  • Provide technical input for new railcar specifications and participate in construction shop inspections
  • Monitor regulatory changes and support inspections to ensure fleet operational integrity

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in railcar or tank car maintenance, repair, qualification, or inspection coordination
  • Strong coordination skills with repair facilities and service providers to drive compliant execution
  • High organizational capability for managing requalification programs, shop work, and urgent repairs
  • Ability to learn and effectively use rail maintenance and data systems
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20–25% to maintenance facilities and vendor locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering or technical degree
  • Working knowledge of 49 CFR 179–180 and AAR tank car standards
  • Experience managing maintenance programs for general purpose and pressure cars, including coating/lining programs
  • Proficiency with rail maintenance data systems such as AllTranstek, Bourque, or Railinc portals
  • Demonstrated cost discipline and experience supporting budgets or implementing digital process improvements
