Radiological Control Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform monitoring of personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas to control exposures
• Recommend appropriate personnel monitoring devices, protective equipment, and working times
• Read, record, evaluate, and report data from radiation detective devices, air, and bioassay sampling
• Conduct investigations into results exceeding guides, standards, and limits
• Calibrate instruments, operate automated low background counting equipment, process TLDs, and perform lung counts
• Participate in the planning phase of new work processes
• Serve as a member of the emergency response organization

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in a Technical Field and 10+ years of relevant experience (or High School Diploma and 20+ years experience)
• U.S. Citizenship
• Ability to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance
• Active 40-Hr HAZWOPER Training and/or current 8-Hr Refresher(s)
• Record of passing the DOE RCT-Standardized CORE Exam
• Proficiency in mathematical computations and conversions for sampling and monitoring results
• Knowledge of principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling radiological hazards
• Understanding of the basic nature of radiation types
