Radiation & Contamination Technologist (RCT)

Responsibilities

• Establish radiation and contamination operating procedures at a high-voltage test site
• Lead radiation monitoring, activation analysis, and decontamination (DECON) for test articles
• Plan and execute radiation work procedures (RWPs) and ALARA for pulsed-power accelerators and neutron yields
• Calibrate, field, and process active and passive dosimetry
• Perform contamination surveys pre- and post-operation and trend results
• Measure activated components and fixtures to establish handling, storage, and release criteria
• Establish DECON methods for test objects, tools, individuals, and work areas
• Author RWPs, checklists, and maintain official documentation of surveys and calibration logs
• Collaborate with operations teams and experimenters to minimize dose and contamination
• Maintain continuous briefing activities regarding test cell conditions and devices under test

Requirements

• 3–7+ years of experience with radiation generating devices (reactors, accelerators, pulsed-power, etc)
• Expertise with radiation protection standards and safety processes
• Applied DECON experience for contaminated materials and advanced knowledge of PPE selection
• Proficiency with survey meters, neutron rem counters, TLDs, activation foils, friskers, and portable gamma spec
• Experience in gamma spectroscopy
• RWP/ALARA planning and dose/contour modeling skills
• Radiation Contamination Technologist (RCT) or equivalent certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with radiation transport codes such as MCNP, GEANT4, or NOVICE
• Familiarity with DoD/DoE radiation safety protocols
• Experience performing operations in high radiation areas
