R&D Undergraduate Intern

Responsibilities

• Assist in gathering hydrologic field data, including the operation and upkeep of scientific instrumentation
• Support laboratory experimentation on non-organic/non-radioactive samples using basic and advanced equipment
• Perform entry-level research and development work using the scientific method to collect data and test hypotheses
• Support the creation and application of scientific theories, engineering methods, and new designs
• Assist with data management and analysis for the Repository Science R&D Team

Requirements

• Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate program
• Pursuing a major in science, engineering, or mathematics
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance
• Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

Preferred Qualifications

• Major in Hydrology, Geochemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or Geological Engineering
• General knowledge of technical principles, processes, and research tools
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general project management knowledge
• Ability to perform physical work in a desert climate and follow strict safety requirements
