R&D Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Support the maturation of the MESA Extended Life Program (MELP) through effective project execution for tools, equipment, and facilities.
• Serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) for projects, partnering with cross-functional internal and external stakeholders.
• Use engineering principles to understand complex systems, gather data, and implement processes to solve technical problems.
• Manage the layout, design, construction, and installation of tools and equipment for current and future operations.
• Communicate project lifecycles and utility requirements transparently to the MELP team, facilities partners, and MESA operations.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, safety, and extreme ownership.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and engineering/scientific experience.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
• Strong engineering background with proven project management skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging diverse technical disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field.
• Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants.
• Experience in manufacturing environments, such as semiconductor, microsystems, or high-volume production settings.
• Familiarity with cleanroom requirements, protocols, or applied systems engineering principles.
• Expertise in project management tasks including estimation, scoping, scheduling, and risk-based prioritization.
