R&D Laboratory Support Technologist

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, maintain, and modify commercial and custom-built scientific systems, such as Magnetically Insulated Transmission Lines (MITL).
• Assist in the planning and coordination of daily pre- and post-experiment activities.
• Perform critical lifts using bridge cranes and forklifts, and manage confined space entries.
• Implement Engineered Safety practices and Work Planning & Controls in alignment with ES&H requirements.
• Conduct quality checks on complex laboratory experiments involving various diagnostics.
• Support general laboratory operations, including material movement, housekeeping, and stocking consumables.
• Work a 2nd shift schedule (afternoon to evening) in an onsite environment.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience servicing, repairing, or developing complex electrical, mechanical, or electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience operating various types of heavy equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
• Ability to perform extended physical activity while wearing personal protection equipment (PPE), including respirators and Tyvek suits.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in high-consequence environments.
• Experience implementing quality principles and standards using Work Process & Controls.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively in high-stress situations.
• A documented history of developing new technical skills and expertise.
