R&D Laboratory Support Technologist

Responsibilities

• Participate in the execution of physics experiments in high-energy-density material studies using advanced facilities like the Z Machine.
• Support research operations through the design and assembly of test fixtures and the modification of experimental hardware.
• Build, modify, repair, and maintain laboratory apparatus, including electronic, optical, and mechanical equipment.
• Create interfaces and data acquisition systems for various scientific instruments.
• Troubleshoot signal acquisition and recording instruments, electrical cables, and optical fibers.
• Manage laboratory space, including supplier relations, supply management, and capability upgrades.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent plus three or more years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working in a laboratory setting within an optical, mechanical, or electrical engineering field.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).
• Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant associate or bachelor's degree combined with applicable experience totaling 7 years.
• Ability to participate in technical discussions with scientists and engineers to solve complex problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for developing work plans, maintenance schedules, and reports.
• Active DOE L or Q security clearance.
