About the role
Responsibilities
- Custom design and build mechanical tools, prototypes, or test fixtures to support experiments characterizing piezoelectric and magnetostrictive actuators
- Demonstrate novel mechanical-based sensing/navigation systems, communication links, and power transmission systems
- Characterize prototype devices and systems
- Analyze and process data and document results in reports, papers, or presentations
Requirements
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
- Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate student studying mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field
- Proficiency in CAD design (2-D and 3-D software)
- Experience with mechanical system assembly, manufacturing, metal machining, or 3D printing
- Experience with basic electrical circuits, measurement tools, and circuit simulation
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, Python, or Matlab
- Knowledge of communication protocols and signal processing
- Experience operating in a research laboratory environment
